W.O.W. (Works on Whatever) the Crooked Tree Arts Center’s 2008 Juried Fine Art Exhibition opened August 30 and presented awards to six Michigan artists. The juror for this year’s exhibition was Cynthia Rutherford of Harbor Springs.
“This is a ‘statement show’, smaller than some in years past, but with the powerful message that ‘Art allows no definition.’” Rutherford said. “In today’s world there is considerable overlap with art and technology. Works on Whatever, W.O.W., is a challenge to the artist to discover a surface that was just asking to become art.”
Awards for the W.O.W. exhibition were presented to: Mary Bea McWatters of Petoskey, First Place Award for “Bike & Ride”; Peter Balestrieri of Bellaire, Second Place Award for “G. W. Bush at 100”; Diana Call Gilmore of Harbor Springs, Third Place Award for “Evolving”. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Cherie Correll of Lake Ann for “Salvaged,” Kathleen B. Tomasek of Indian River for “Remembering Tony,” and Patrick Wise of Huntington Woods for “Open”.
The W.O.W. exhibition will be on display at Crooked Tree Arts Center until November 22, 2008. The Crooked Tree Arts Center is located downtown Petoskey at 461 E. Mitchell Street. For more information please call the Arts Center at 231-347-4337 or visit www.crookedtree.org.
